Visit from the Department of Health and Aged Care

On Thursday 9 March 2023, representatives from the Department of Health and Aged Care at the Australian Government met with Professor Lisa Bourke and Kim Ackland from Going Rural Health to visit our service-learning placement providers and students.

Representatives from the Australian Government visited  our placement partners and students at Mooroopna Primary School.

Rose Ledinic, Assistant Director within the Professional Entry and Rural Training Section and Josie Dichiera, RHMT Contract Manager, at the Department of Health and Aged Care visited Mooroopna Primary to see how the Mooroopna Schools Speech Pathology program is currently running and the benefits resulting from the program.

Stakeholders present during Mooroopna site visit included:

  • Leah Hawker, Speech Pathologist at Mooroopna Primary School
  • Carla May, Acting Principal at Mooroopna Primary School
  • Surabhi Budhiraja, Speech Pathologist at Mooroopna North Primary School and Mooroopna Park Primary School
  • Michelle Duke, Principal at Mooroopna North Primary School
  • Australian Catholic University Speech Pathology students

Site visits were also completed at Goulburn Valley Physiotherapy Centre with ACU physiotherapy students and physiotherapy supervisor, Brenton Kiel. This placement is completed in conjunction with Aquamoves with the students currently focusing on developing and facilitating an injury prevention program.
