The Royal Melbourne Hospital Neuroscience Foundation receives donation

Mrs Helen Davis recently presented a substantial donation to Professor Andrew Kaye towards brain tumour research.

The majority of brain tumours are presently incurable, and unfortunately these types of tumours disproportionately affect young people. The Royal Melbourne Hospital Neuroscience Foundation, a very extensive research program through the Department of Surgery at the University of Melbourne, is investigating both how these tumours develop and new techniques for treating them. The research is based on understanding the molecular biology of the tumour, and developing specific therapies to target the molecular abnormality. Research also developing methods of identifying the cancer within the bloodstream so as to diagnose the tumour more easily and monitor the progress of the treatments more accurately. These programs are being undertaken in conjunction with a number of major international research groups.

The very generous donation received from Mrs Helen Davis is invaluable in progressing these research programs.
