Dr David Canty wins awards for his research presentations

Dr David Canty, Senior Lecturer and Director of Ultrasound Simulation
Ultrasound Education Group, Department of Surgery,
has won two awards for his presentations on research in the Department of Surgery at two conferences, one international and one national.

In April 2017, he won 3rd prize for his oral research presentation in the plenary research session at the 32nd European Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiology (EACTA) congress, Berlin, Germany, on a paper titled: "Assessment of image quality of repeated focused transthoracic echocardiography after cardiac surgery"

In May 2017 he was awarded 1st prize for the open oral research ePoster session at ANZCA Annual Scientific Meeting, Brisbane, on a paper titled: "Pilot randomised controlled trial of the impact of preoperative focused cardiac ultrasound on mortality, cardiac morbidity and health care costs after fractured neck of femur surgery (ECHONOF II Pilot)"

David also featured in a General Practice journal, leading him to supervise a PhD student on teaching and application of focused cardiac ultrasound in rural general practice. Please click here to view the full article.
