Kendall Francis Surgery Research Forum 2019

On Friday 18th October 2019, the annual Kendall Francis Surgery Research Forum took place at Sunshine Hospital, Western Health.

The session was chaired by the Head of the Department of Surgery Western Health, Associate Professor Justin Yeung.   This was a bumper year with a record number of attendees making it one of the most successful meetings.

Professor Peter Choong, Hugh Devine Chair of Surgery at the University of Melbourne & St Vincent’s Hospital was our Keynote speaker this year. He gave an excellent overview of ‘Sham Trials’ and how they apply to Surgery, which lead to some great debates and discussions at the end.

This was followed by fifteen research presentations from different clinical specialities by medical staff, allied health and medical students.  It was very encouraging to see so many medical students being involved in research and it was very impresssive to hear them present their projects so well.  The Kendall Francis Prize 2019 was awarded to Dr Sam Pellegrino on her work in ‘Survivorship Care for Colorectal Cancer’ with Associate Professor Justin Yeung.  It was a difficult decision as the standard of the presentations were exceptional this year.

We are thankful for all the support from clinicians and members of staff at Western Health.
