New Precinct Lead at Austin Health announced

It is our pleasure to confirm the appointment of Professor Vijayaragavan (Murali) Muralidharan to the position of Professor of Surgery and Academic Lead for the University of Melbourne (UoM) Department of Surgery at Austin Health.

Prof Vijayaragavan Muralidharan

Murali is a highly regarded clinical surgeon working in the Hepatobiliary (HPB) and Liver Transplant Unit at Austin Health, and earlier this year he was appointed to the role of Director of this Unit. Murali is also a well-respected and collaborative member of the UoM Department of Surgery, and has been outstanding in his role as Interim Academic Lead for the Austin Precinct over this past year.

As many of you know, Murali’s research focus is on personalising therapy for patients with HPB malignancies and liver transplantation through the use of circulating biomarkers and development of mass data analyses to enable predictive accuracy and response assessment. Murali is also extensively involved in surgical education and examinations at both the undergraduate and post graduate levels, including his work as Deputy Chair, Board in General Surgery, Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and Director, General Surgery Training, Austin Northern Training Hub.

This promotion is a true testament to the work Professor Muralidharan achieves in both his University and Austin Health roles, and we welcome Murali to this important leadership role at the UoM Department of Surgery at Austin Health, which reaffirms the University’s commitment to working in partnership with our hospital partners to ensure excellence in education of our future workforce, combined with a focus on improved patient outcomes.

Please join us in congratulating Murali on his appointment.
