Professor Debra Nestel AM

Congratulations to Professor Debra Nestel, who was recently appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to medical education through simulated teaching methods.

Professor Debra Nestel is a Professor of Surgical Education within the Department of Surgery and a Professor of Simulation Education in Healthcare, Monash University. She is program lead for the Masters of Surgical Education (Department of Surgery and Royal Australasian College of Surgeons) and the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Simulation. In addition, Debra leads a national program for simulation educators – NHET-Sim and a virtual network in simulated patient methodology.

Professor Nestel received this well-deserved award as part of the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

The Department of Surgery has benefitted from her massive contribution to teaching, research, and the tremendous academic leadership and mentorship she has provided to many.
