Professor Peter Choong AO appointed MDHS Associate Dean Innovation and Enterprise

Professor Peter Choong AO has been appointed to the position of Associate Dean for Innovation and Enterprise commencing on 1 August 2022. Peter will be well known to many in the faculty as the Sir Hugh Devine Professor of Surgery and Head of the Department of Surgery within the Melbourne Medical School. Peter will retain these roles in addition to his new responsibilities as Associate Dean Innovation and Enterprise.

Innovation is a key plank of the Faculty’s Advancing Health 2030 strategy and Peter brings great experience and a high level of passion to lead the MDHS innovation agenda. Peter is an internationally recognised orthopaedic surgeon, an NHMRC Practitioner Fellow and has led an NHMRC Centre for Research Excellence. He played a key role in the Innovative Manufacturing CRC, has received multiple major grants for medical technology development, and developed intellectual property and medical discoveries and approaches into real-world impact in health care. Peter also brings deep experience in working with major industry partners, which is a key priority in our strategy to ensure maximal translation of our fundamental research into societal impact. Peter is passionate about creating 21st-century health professionals and improving healthcare and wellbeing via innovation, creativity, and enterprise, which aligns perfectly with Advancing Health 2030.
