The Department of Surgery is thrilled to congratulate Dr Melanie Crispin on being selected for the inaugural Australian Women's Doctors Soccer Team
Dr Melanie Crispin is a student on the Graduate Programs in Surgical Education. She is currently undertaking a research project on how medical students make decisions to pursue a career in surgery.
We’re really proud of her soccer achievements too!
"I am excited to be a part of the inaugural Australian Women's Doctors Soccer Team, called the Medtildas! We will be competing against Canada, Panama, New Zealand, Ireland, and other nations at the World Medical Football Championships in July 2024 on the Sunshine Coast, over a week-long competition.
We have held training camps in Melbourne, Canberra at the Australian Institute of Sport, and soon on the Sunshine Coast, and it has been wonderful meeting doctors from all over Australia and forming friendships through our mutual love of soccer. I played outdoor soccer throughout high school and university but have lacked the time to play in the last decade, whilst working as a junior doctor, then a general surgical trainee, having two children along the way, and then completing my fellowship exam in 2022. It's so much fun to play again after such a long time.
If you happen to be on the Sunshine Coast from July 20-28th, come along to support us at the Maroochydore Football Club!"
