Congratulations to Professor Alistair Royse AM
Congratulations to Professor Alistair Royse AM who was recently appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the King's Birthday 2025 Honours List for his outstanding contribution to medicine, research, training and their community.
Professor Alistair Royse AM is a cardiothoracic surgeon and has pioneered the use of arterial coronary bypass grafts and complex arterial reconstructions. This has radically changed the practice of coronary surgery in this country. He has also been intimately involved in the development of clinical ultrasound including intraoperative ultrasound. With his brother, who is an anaesthetist as co-director of the ultrasound education group, they oversee a large distance education (eLearning) program with almost 40,000 students in 3 years. He was promoted via the academic stream to Professor in 2011. He has more than 240 peer reviewed papers.

Professor Royse received the prestigious Member of the Order (AM) for his significant service to medicine as a cardiothoracic surgeon, researcher, educator and trainer.
The Department of Surgery congratulates Associate Professor Alistair Royse AM on this well-deserved recognition and recognises the wonderful achievement by Professor Royse who has contributed so deeply to his chosen field as well as contributing to the success of our department.
