RACS Annual Women in Surgery essay competition now open

The College is committed to expanding the number of women in surgical training and to ensuring the training programs do not disadvantage them. Since half the medical graduates are now female, there is a need to attract the best graduates to surgery, and the College is actively pursuing that goal.

Women in Surgery section are once again running a medical student essay competition. This year’s topic is “Is seeking gender equality in surgery enough or should we be seeking equity?”

The author of the winning essay chosen by the committee will receive complimentary registration to the 2023 RACS Annual Scientific Congress in Adelaide (01 to 05 May 2023). A winner outside Adelaide will receive complimentary flights and accommodation. All other costs will be at the winner’s own expense. Further details can be found on the RACS website.

Entries accepted from female medical students including those in their final year of study in 2022. Essays are limited to 1000 words. Entries due COB, Monday 28 November 2023.

Any queries and entries can be emailed wis@surgeons.org. Good luck to all entrants!racs
