Kendall Francis Forum 2023

This year’s joint Western Health and Western Precinct University of Melbourne Surgery Research event– the Kendall Francis Forum was an outstanding success with over 80 members of staff attending from medical and nursing backgrounds.

Professor Wendy Brown, Consultant Upper GI surgeon shared her expertise on weight loss surgery, demonstrating the beneficial effects of weight loss on health gain.

Surgical research from both the junior medical staff and medical students from western precinct was of the highest calibre. Research themes ranged from artificial intelligence to quality of life and symptom management.

Adjunct Professor Russell Harrison, CEO of Western Health awarded the prizes for best medical and student presentations.

Dr Doris Cao from the Department of Surgery, Western Precinct was awarded the Kendall Francis Best Surgery prize this year with her work on 3D body composition and its utilisation to identify at risk patients of developing chemotherapy toxicities.
