Melbourne Academic Centre for Health MACH-Track Program 2023 Awardee
Congratulations Dr Alex Besson, currently a surgical unaccredited registrar at Western Health, has been awarded a position in the Melbourne Academic Centre for Health MACH-Track program 2023.
The MACH-Track seeks to develop the future leaders in clinical innovation, integrating PhD training with completion of vocational training. Few surgical trainees have been awarded this prestigious program. Alex will be starting his first year of General Surgical training in 2023 and will commence his PhD with Associate Professor Justin Yeung in the Western Precinct, Department of Surgery, University of Melbourne and the Department of Colorectal Surgery, Western Health.
Alex completed his medical training at University of Melbourne (2018) before finishing a Masters of Traumatology at the University of Newcastle (2021). Alex has been involved in research since his time at the University of Melbourne and is a founding member of the WestSuRG research collaborative.
Alex has a particular interest in colorectal surgery and colorectal cancer and is looking to develop predictive tools using artificial intelligence and radiomics to improve on colorectal cancer treatment.
