Recent outstanding achievements from the Department of Surgery

Academic staff from the Department of Surgery have made many outstanding achievements over the last few months, including awards and publications in prestigious journals.

Recent publications:

• Professor Alistair Royse, Justin Ren and Professor Colin Royse published an article in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. Read Coronary artery bypass surgery without saphenous vein grafting here. 

Recent grant funding:

• Associate Professor Rick Liu, Dr Rod O'Day, Dr Jennifer Fan Gaskin, Professor Alex Hewitt, Dr Luis Alarcon-Martinez and Dr Sandy Hung were recently awarded grant funding for their respective projects through the Australian Vision Research grant scheme.

Student awards:

• Daniel Urruita Cabrera won first prize and the Royal Society of Victoria for his presentation Using cellular reprogramming and CRISPR Technologies to Regenerate the Retina and treat vision loss.
• Dr Sloan Wang won the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists' award for Best Paper.
