Strategic Grants for Outstanding Women - 2023

Congratulations to Associate Professor Rosalind McDougall who is the recipient of a 2023 MMS Strategic Grants for Outstanding Women.

Launched in 2019, the Strategic Grants for Outstanding Women scheme (SGOW) aims to support high-performing early and mid-career women in academia in advancing their careers towards senior academic and leadership roles.

Offered biennially, the scheme supports recipients over a two year period to undertake activities intended to increase their academic capability, productivity and profile with the intention of progressing their careers.

This scheme is administered by the Melbourne Medical School and generously supported by our health service partners.

Associate Professor Rosalind McDougall is an ethicist, who co-leads the Clinical Ethics and Decision Support Unit in the Department of Surgery (Austin) at the University of Melbourne. Associate Professor McDougall's research and teaching focus on the ethical challenges faced by health professionals. She has been involved in providing clinical ethics support in Melbourne hospitals since 2008.

Associate Professor McDougall's background is in philosophy and qualitative research, and she brings these ideas and approaches to interdisciplinary analysis of issues in patient care. This grant will enable a substantial expansion of the Unit’s education program, including the establishment of a UoM student clinical ethics committee.
