The Melbourne Medical School was deeply saddened by the death of second-year MD student Andrew Kindred, at the end of August.

Deeply loved by all who knew him, Andy was a vibrant member of our school's community and a highly valued friend.

More than 450 people gathered in the Sunderland Theatre at Parkville for a very moving memorial organised by the medical students' society, UMMSS.

Andy's housemates from the Shepparton campus of our Rural Clinical School told of a friend who was hilarious and had a genuine concern for others.

A longstanding friend and Andy's sister both spoke of how much he was loved and his enjoyment of his time as a medical student.

The pain and confusion caused by his death was very evident and all present admired the speakers for their courage in supporting each other at this very difficult time.

The Melbourne Medical School is acutely aware of the mental health needs of its students and wishes to remind all readers of the importance of looking after ourselves and seeking help from others.
