Inaugural Fireside Chat held by the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health

The Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health hosted the inaugural Fireside Chat on Thursday 17 August 2023 at the Royal Women’s Hospital.

Fireside Chat

(L-R): Professor Tu’uhevaha Kaitu’u-Lino, Deputy Head of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health, Associate Professor Stefan Kane, Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health, Alexandra Roddy-Mitchell & Mandy Lobley.

The Fireside Chat, organised by Honorary Research Fellow Dr Emerson Keenan from the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health (Royal Women’s Hospital) and hosted by Elephant Circle Chair Mandy Lobley, was a candid discussion about dealing with professional failure and rejection with Professor Tu’uhevaha Kaitu’u-Lino, Associate Professor Stefan Kane and PhD candidate Alexandra Roddy-Mitchell.

It was a very special afternoon with vulnerability and mutual respect on display from both junior and senior staff members speaking about the challenges they face navigating the research career path.

Attendee comments:

A meaningful initiative to help foster the culture we want for our department.”

The Elephant Circle would like to continue running Fireside Chats in the future, so if there is a topic you would like explored, please reach out to Elise Newman, Department Coordinator, to let her know what you would like discussed.
