PeriOperative ISchemic Evaluation-3 Trial: POISE-3

An international multi-centre randomized clinical trial to assess the impact of tranexamic acid (TXA) versus placebo, and to assess the impact of managing hypotension versus standard of care in patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery who are at risk of a perioperative cardiovascular event.

Ten thousand patients will be enrolled at 300 sites in 25 countries.

Primary objective: to determine the incidence of a composite of myocardial infarction, stroke and pulmonary embolism. Patients will be followed for 1 year.
