Why mentoring matters

Having a mentor can be a powerful enabler at key stages of any career. Effective mentoring can support career progression, strengthen professional and leadership capabilities, and provide tailored guidance to help mentees reach their potential.

What mentees can expect

ACADI purposefully matches mentees with experienced professionals to support meaningful, goal‑focused mentoring relationships. Mentees receive personalised guidance to help clarify career direction, enhance research and professional impact, and expand their professional networks.

About the Program

The ACADI Mentoring Program runs from May to November. Mentor and mentee pairs are expected to meet monthly, with a total of six mentoring sessions across the program period.

Mentees will participate in an online facilitated training session delivered by experienced leadership consultants, Serendis Leadership, designed to support the development of an effective and impactful mentoring relationship.

The program concludes with a Mentoring Program Finale Event, providing an opportunity to reflect on learnings and celebrate participant achievements.

• Facilitated Mentee training session: Wednesday 29 April 2026, 1:00pm – 3:00pm AEST (online)
• Facilitated midpoint check in: Friday 7 August 2026, 10:00am – 11:30am AEST (online)
• Mentoring Program Finale Event: Wednesday 11 November 2026, 10:30am – 12:00pm AEDT (online)

Why become a mentor

Becoming a mentor provides an opportunity to continue your professional development while contributing to the growth of the next generation of diabetes researchers. Mentoring can support the development of coaching and leadership capabilities, foster new professional connections, and offer the opportunity to share insights gained throughout your career.

What mentors can expect

Through one‑on‑one mentoring conversations, mentors support mentees to build confidence and gain clarity as they navigate academic and professional pathways. Mentoring relationships are mentee‑driven, with mentors providing guidance, perspective, and support aligned to mentees’ goals and priorities.

The ACADI Mentoring Program offers mentors the opportunity to strengthen coaching and leadership skills, pay forward professional experience, and make a meaningful contribution to the broader diabetes research community.
