
The Diamond cohort study was established in 2005 to explore the course and management of depression in the primary care setting in recognition that most treatment and management of common mental disorders occurs in general practice. Diamond is one of the largest and longest running cohorts of its kind globally.

Funding
The Diamond study was initiated with pilot funding from the beyondblue Victorian Centre for Research Excellence in Depression and Related Disorders and the main cohort has received consecutive Project Grant funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council (IDs 299869 (2004); 454463 (2007); 566511 (2009); and 1002908 (2010).
The year one Computer Assisted Telephone Interview was funded by a Stream 3 grant from the Australian Primary Health Care Research Institute (APHCRI) which is supported by a grant from the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.
No funding body had a role in study design; the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data; the writing of the manuscript; or the decision to submit this manuscript for publication.
