Keep updated by using the resources page of our website
Keep an eye on the ‘Resources’ page of the Data for Decisions website for all new and important information. There is a section ‘for Researchers’, one ‘for General Practices’ and one ‘for the Data Governance Committee’.
Researchers wanting to use Patron data, or already using Patron data, will find the information on the Resources page of the D4D website very useful. When planning a Patron application, researchers should look at the ‘Patron Databook’, ‘Patron Program of Work Guidelines’ and ‘Research Data Access Flowchart’ for helpful information, including a list of the 2026 closing dates for applications to access Patron data. For example, did you know that when you are applying for ethics approval for a project using Patron data, you need to include the ‘Patron Summary for Ethics Applications’ document? Well, now you do. See - very useful indeed.
General Practices contributing to Data for Decisions can find the ‘Waiting Room Poster’ and ‘Patient Information Flyer’ located on the Resources page. Both of these resources should be displayed in a public area at your practice. You will also find current versions of all brochures sent to practices when you first joined the Data for Decisions program. This information can be very useful during accreditation.

The list of publications using Patron data use is growing rapidly with over 30 listed on the website. Head to Publications page to find out more.
Interested in joining the Data for Decisions program? Data for Decisions, incorporating the PATRON program of research, is a University of Melbourne research initiative that is managed by the Department of General Practice and Primary Care. With the permission of general practices or other primary care providers, we collate data from de-identified medical records and use the information for research to increase knowledge, quality improvement and improve healthcare practices.
