News from the Department of Medicine

Thank you all for the warm welcome and many congratulations I have received since my appointment to the role was first announced.

Elif Ekinci

I extend my gratitude to Professor Jo Douglass for her tireless leadership and look forward to working collaboratively with Professor Douglass and all the other academic leads at our hospitals, as well as our wider Department of Medicine community.

My vision for the Department of Medicine is to create an environment where we unite to learn from and support each other while celebrating our successes. Strong, diverse, and empowered multidisciplinary teams, recognising each person’s unique strengths, are the cornerstone of research success. I aim to build on the synergies between all our health service partners and the University of Melbourne, enhancing collaborations and showcasing our Department’s extraordinary work.

I am currently examining our governance structures and as a part of my vision, I will soon be calling for nominations for the Department of Medicine’s Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Committee. I encourage and support your participation in this, and in other similarly aligned committees that will subsequently be established, so together, as a team, we can transform our Department to be an agile leader in advancing technology driven innovative healthcare.

Leadership is never about the individual, and I thank my team and the Melbourne Medical School for this marvellous opportunity. I look forward to working with you for positive future success.
