The University of Melbourne has a very close working relationship with Austin Health to enhance patient care, teaching, research and research translation. We have research laboratories located at two major hospitals in the north-east of Melbourne: the Austin Hospital and the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital in Heidelberg. Research at Austin spans diverse areas of biomedical research covering cancer, cardiovascular disease, endocrinology, genetics, neurosciences and pharmacology.

The objectives of Medicine @ Royal Melbourne are to provide clinical and research leadership from the interface of basic science and clinical medicine across the medical disciplines, to teach undergraduate and postgraduate students, to perform high quality research, and to provide leadership in national medical and scientific bodies.
Medicine at St Vincent's Hospital
The Department of Medicine at St Vincent's Hospital undertakes basic, clinical and applied research in a range of areas. Driven by clinical questions, the ultimate goal of our research is to improve the treatment of human disease. To this end, our work covers aspects of the basic mechanisms of biology and physiology, clinical and community-based epidemiology, clinical neurosciences, infection and immunity, as well as clinical trials of new therapies and devices.
Medicine at Western Health
Medicine at the Western Health conducts high quality research into acute and chronic diseases common in the western suburbs of Melbourne. We are a multidisciplinary group who has extensive experience in the design and conduct of large-scale, clinical randomised controlled trials, and public health and translational research.
