How To Apply

It is recommended that you apply a minimum of 12 months in advance of your proposed elective period. Check that you have the correct dates as often they cannot be changed. Please note: applications outside of this formal process cannot be undertaken.

Application Process

Step 1
Fill in the Elective Application Form and email it along with your curriculum vitae to rch.elective@rch.org.au Application form [PDF 36k].

Step 2
Successful applicants will be notified within 60 days of their application being received and we will forward a letter of offer to you.

Please note: your preferred discipline can not be confirmed at this time.

If you accept the offer, you will need to provide the following documents:

  • A police check (from your  country of residence) that is dated no longer than 3 months from your elective commencement date.
  • Australian Working With Children Check.
  • A document of evidence of cover for Public Liability, Professional Indemnity/Medical and Health Malpractice and Personal Accident Insurance from your medical school.
  • A letter of reference from your medical school, stating that you are a medical student and that you will be in your final year at the time of the elective
  • You will need to organise payment of the administration fee via the University of Melbourne on-line payment system up to 6 weeks prior to your commencement: http://ecommerce.mdhs.unimelb.edu.au/categories.asp?cID=59

Step 3
When all documentation has been received we will send you a letter of acceptance, which will indicate the discipline, from your preferences, that you have been allocated to. This letter will provide information on what you will need to do on the day of your arrival.
