Education Training OpportunitiesThe Centre for the Study of Higher Education (CSHE) at the University of Melbourne has multiple education training programs that academic staff members can complete to develop university teaching skills. These can all be found on the CSHE website and include: - Certificate in Small-Group Teaching (CSGT): This is a perfect starting point for academic staff members or honoraries new to teaching in the small group context, and is the first of the following options that we would recommend you consider. This free program includes 8 seminars and 3 assignments, and runs twice a year.
- Skilled Facilitators Program: This program builds on the learning from the CSGT and is designed for academic staff members or honoraries who have completed the CSGT and teach in small group contexts. This free program includes 6 workshops and several assessment tasks, and runs twice a year.
- Melbourne Teaching Certificate (MTC): This program builds on the learning from the CSGT and is designed for academic staff members or honoraries who have completed the CSGT and teach in the lecture context. This free program involves two forums and two modules with integrated assessment, and runs twice a year.
- Enhancing Teaching Presentation Skills: This workshop is designed for academic staff members or honoraries who teach in the lecture context and supports the development of creating and delivering engaging lectures. This free workshop doesn’t have any assessments outside of the workshop itself, and runs twice a year.
- Graduate Certificate in University Teaching (GCUT): This is a one-year part-time course designed for academic staff who have significant university teaching or curriculum development responsibilities. Advance standing may be considered for those who have completed the CSGT. This course is not free and runs once a year.
The Department of Medication Education (DME) at the University of Melbourne also has multiple education training programs that academic staff members can complete to develop clinical teaching skills. These can all be found on the DME website and include: - Clinical Supervision Online (CSO) training: This is a perfect starting point for academic staff members or honoraries new to clinical teaching and supervision, and is the first of the following options that we recommend you consider. This online program is not free (but can be with special exemption) and takes 3-6 hours.
- Professional Learning Communities (PLC): This program builds on the learning from the CSO training and links up multiple academic clinical educators to meet monthly over the course of a year with the support of an expert clinical educator facilitator. This program runs once per year.
- Clinical Education Qualification Pathway: This pathway is designed for academic staff involved in clinical teaching. It starts with a one-year part-time (Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education) course which can be extended for a second year (Graduate Diploma in Clinical Education) or for a third year (Master of Clinical Education) as appropriate. These courses are not free (but may be able to be subsidized) and run once a year.

Mental Health Training OpportunitiesThere are also education training opportunities available for professional staff members. These include: - Mental Health Staff Training: The University of Melbourne Counselling and Psychological Services offer a range of workshops that can be found here. These free workshops (which includes formal mental health first aid training) run multiple times a year and are a great starting point for professional staff who would like to learn about how to support students/staff with mental health issues.
- University Support Program: Headspace offer a range of mental health workshops that can be found here. These free workshops run multiple times during the year and are also a great starting point for professional staff members who would like to learn about how to support students/staff with mental health issues.

Education Recognition OpportunitiesThe Centre for the Study of Higher Education (CSHE) at the University of Melbourne has two recognition programs that you can complete to obtain recognition for high quality teaching. These can be found on the CSHE website and include: - Melbourne Peer Review of Teaching (MPRT): This program is designed for Level B continuing academic staff and above (with potential for exceptions) to improve their university teaching by having their work observed by two members of the Melbourne College of Reviewers, who then provide a feedback report. This program is free.
- Advance HE Fellowship: This program is available to continuing academic and professional staff who are involved in regular university teaching. With completion of the program the staff member is awarded with an internationally recognised acknowledgement of excellent teaching. This program is free and runs once a year.
The Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry, and Health Sciences (MDHS) at the University of Melbourne has multiple education awards that can be applied for to recognise excellence in teaching. These all require nomination by another staff member, all award $5,000 to successful applicants, and can all be found on the MDHS website. Nominations are only accepted once per year. Awards available include: - Award for Learning and Teaching Achievement: Any academic staff (including honorary staff) who has been teaching for over two years may be nominated for this award. This award has less strict application criteria.
- Award for Sustained Excellence in Learning and Teaching: Any academic staff (including honorary staff) who has been teaching for over four years may be nominated for this award. This award has more strict application criteria.
- Award for Education for Collaborative Practice: Any team of academic staff (including honorary staff) who have been working for over two years in the space of collaborative multidisciplinary practice may be nominated for this award.
- Award for Program Innovation: Any team of academic staff (including honorary staff) who have been working for over two years in the space of enhancing learning over multiple subjects may be nominated for this award.

Education Role OpportunitiesThe Department of Psychiatry (DoP) has a range of education role opportunities: - DoP MD Program Employed Education Roles: If you are interested in being involved in either site (coordinating student rotations at a hospital), discovery (coordinating discovery subjects), or mental health (coordinating the wider program) coordination, contact the Mental Health Academic Coordinator (lallen@unimelb.edu.au).
- DoP MD Program Honorary Education Roles: If you are interested in being involved in medical student teaching or medical student assessment, contact either your local Site Academic Coordinator or the Mental Health Academic Coordinator (lallen@unimelb.edu.au).
- Postgraduate Psychiatry Employed Education Roles: If you are interested in being involved in the delivery of the Master of Psychiatry or the Clinical Psychiatry Course (applicants must be consultants or senior registrars who are post exams), contact the Department of Psychiatry Course Coordinator (mj.yoo@unimelb.edu.au).
The Department of Medical Education (DME) also has education role opportunities: - Professional Practice: Professional practice tutors facilitate weekly to fortnightly sessions with a small group of students over each semester. If you are interested in this, contact your local clinical school.
