2025 Metcalf Prize for Stem Cell Research Winner: Dr Maria Di Biase
Congratulations to Dr Maria Di Biase, who’s been awarded the 2025 Metcalf Prize for Stem Cell Research.
The National Stem Cell Foundation of Australia awards and celebrates two exceptional mid-career stem cell researchers each year with the Metcalf Prizes for Stem Cell Research. This initiative is in honour of the exceptional contribution made to stem cell research by the late Emeritus Professor Donald Metcalf, AC, FRS, FAA, and aims to recognise and reward scientists who are conducting excellent and sustained work focused on stem cell research.
Dr Maria Di Biase was awarded this prize for her work creating a ‘brain bank’ of schizophrenia: blobs of brain cells from 100 people growing in the lab, which she's using to develop urgently needed new approaches to diagnosis and treatment.
