Teaching Spotlight: Clinical Psychiatry Course (CPC)

An exciting milestone was reached in February 2026, when the Department of Psychiatry delivered the inaugural teaching session for the first intake of students in the Clinical Psychiatry Course (CPC).

Teaching Spotlight

The 2026 Clinical Psychiatry Course staff and students

CPC is a three-year, non-award course comprising six semesters of 20 weeks each. Teaching is delivered weekly, either onsite at the Alan Gilbert Building or via live online streaming. The student cohort consists primarily of psychiatry registrars who are either undertaking training toward Fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) or are preparing to commence training while working in clinical psychiatry settings. CPC is fully accredited by RANZCP as a Formal Education Course (FEC), meeting all relevant training requirements.

CPC offers an exceptional learning experience, with teaching delivered by local experts who are also internationally recognised leaders in clinical psychiatry, research, and education. The Department of Psychiatry is fortunate to draw on a wide pool of distinguished clinicians and academics who are deeply committed to sharing their expertise with the next generation of psychiatrists. CPC will run alongside the Master of Psychiatry - our flagship academic FEC offering - which continues to attract both national and international students seeking a rigorous, award-based pathway.

The CPC and Master of Psychiatry programs at the University of Melbourne are coordinated by Sam P and Dr MJ Yoo, with additional academic leadership from Associate Professor Samantha Loi and Associate Professor Lee Allen. The programs are further supported by Samantha Susa and Caroline Ma, whose professionalism and dedication are integral to the success of the course. We also extend our sincere thanks to Associate Professor Mahesh Jayaram, who established the course and laid the foundations that have enabled CPC to launch successfully in 2026.
