Message from the Head of Department

Welcome to the first Department of Psychiatry Newsletter for 2025. We have had a productive start to the year, and already have a number of achievements to highlight.

I want to extend a warm welcome to new colleagues who have joined the department and congratulate those who have received academic promotions.

A number of scholarships and grants have been awarded across the department this year. Dr Chiranth Bhagavan, Leah Hudson and Connie Tse were each awarded the Graham Burrows Travelling Scholarship; Yoshito Saito was awarded the Nikolaos and Dimitra Pantelis Travelling Scholarship; and Dr Elysha Ringin was awarded EMCR Research Support grant. Congratulations to all.

Congratulations also to Professor Christos Pantelis who was recently honoured with the 2025 SIRS President's Award.

Our academic calendar continues with the monthly Seminar Series covering diverse mental health research themes. The annual Beattie Smith Lecture will be held in August, and we are delighted to have Professor Helen Milroy pencilled in to present the 2025 iteration. I encourage all department members to attend these events.

Finally, as I hope you are all aware, the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Program roll-out is underway across the university, with the new system due to launch on 24 May. There has been a huge amount of work involved, and I am thankful for the efforts of the staff who are assisting with the transition.

I am looking forward to a successful next quarter, and thanks again for your hard work and support.
