Department of Psychiatry Quarterly Newsletter – July, 2025
Message from the Head of Department
As we reach the midpoint of the year (with the year’s shortest day behind us), I would like to reflect on the achievements and progress we have seen in the department.
I want to congratulate Alfred Lo, who was awarded a Weary Dunlop grant; and Wonyoung Kim, who was awarded the Nick Christopher PhD Top-up Scholarship.
We have seen some excellent presentations in our monthly Academic Seminar Series, which have been well attended, both in person and online. The Beattie Smith Lecture is planned for August and the Mental Health Symposium featuring the Alice Barber Lecture for October. Keep an eye out for more details on these events.
We have been working on establishing research themes to capture the department’s strengths and promote collaboration. You will hear more about these soon: we will rollout new webpages for the themes, and encourage researchers to align themselves and participate in the themes.
The rollout of the Enterprise Resource Planning Program is now complete, and the new Workday and Cayuse systems look like they will make our admin tasks easier. I encourage you to familiarise yourselves with the support resources (including details on training opportunities).
Finally, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Associate Professor Leo Chen, who commenced in the role of Associate Professor of Psychiatry at St Vincent’s Hospital on 1 July. Please join me in welcoming Leo to the department.
Professor Chris Davey
