New Research Theme - Health Policy and Systems Science
The Department of Psychiatry is pleased to announce the arrival of a fresh research theme to add to our existing stable.
Led by Professor Jason Thompson, the Health Policy and Systems Science (HPSS) research theme will bring together a substantial existing suite of research projects being conducted through academic and industry partnerships. The HPSS theme will focus on models of care, compensation systems, disability and social insurance systems, and the analysis of health system design through a systems science lens.
The HPSS theme is already 10 people-strong and is looking to expand further by offering new PhD scholarships and attracting new funds from a range of new and existing sources over the next 3-5 years. Staff within the theme have a variety of backgrounds from data science to project management, software engineering, epidemiology, computational modelling, physiology, psychology, and physics. The recent RANZCP conference highlighted the importance of embracing systems perspectives into Psychiatry with a surprising number of keynotes and sessions dedicated to appreciating and grappling with complexity, operationalising models of care, and understanding the impact of system design on outcomes for consumers.
