ISTSS Board visits Phoenix Australia: 24–25 March

On 24–25 March, Phoenix Australia was honoured to host the Board of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS) at the Department of Psychiatry.

ISTSS is the premier global interdisciplinary professional organisation dedicated to advancing the field of traumatic stress, with members from over 50 countries. Professor Andrea Phelps, Deputy Director of Phoenix Australia, is the current President of ISTSS.

Board members enjoyed a week in Melbourne and took part in a range of events and activities, including:

• The ISTSS Board meeting held at the Department of Psychiatry.
• A traumatic stress symposium with colleagues from the Australasian Society for Traumatic Stress and Phoenix Australia.
• The annual Beattie Smith Public Lecture, delivered by ISTSS immediate past president, Professor Soraya Seedat (Stellenbosch University).
• A visit to Healesville Sanctuary to see Australia’s unique native animals.

The visit provided valuable opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange and strengthening international ties in the traumatic stress field.
