The Department of Psychiatry teaching team had the privilege of hosting the 5th annual Mental Health Education Leads Australia and New Zealand (MHELANZ) event on 2 May 2026.

MHLEANZ was founded by A/Prof Lee Allen (the University of Melbourne) and A/Prof Megan Kalucy (UNSW) during COVID-19. Its membership represents leads in Mental Health education at all Medical Schools throughout Australia and New Zealand. The team had an excellent program including AI in psychiatry education, eating disorders, curriculum development and clinical reasoning skill development.

Prof Andrew Teodorcuk, Executive Dean of Education for the RANZCP joined the event and has expressed commitment to incorporation of this community of practice into the RANZCP education committee. This was a productive meeting at a time of much attention around educational innovation at the RANZCP. Thanks to Michael who is part of the executive and to Jo Rao and Lina Pepe for supporting our hosting of the event.
