Welcome to the third edition of the Department of Psychiatry newsletter for 2026. It’s been a busy few months across the department with awards and grants to celebrate, new starters to welcome and a diverse calendar of events to look forward to.
Congratulations to Dr Alec Jamieson, who was awarded the 2026 BBRF Young Investigator Grant and the BPA ECRN Travel Grant; Michael Mercieca who received the RMH Honours Department of Psychiatry Award; and Dr Dhamidhu Eratne who was named as a finalist in the 2026 Premier’s Awards for the Health and Medical Research Clinician Researcher Award.
Our academic calendar continues to grow with the monthly Seminar Series seeing strong attendance both in person and online. The annual Mental Health Symposium featuring the Alice Barber Public Lecture will be held on 27th October and will be presented by Professor Lucia Valmaggia (Orygen). We are also looking forward to the Wellbeing in Ageing Team (WiAT) Symposium on 9th October and the DoP End of Year Symposium and Awards on 9th December. I encourage all department members to attend these events.
Finally, I would like to acknowledge the hard work and achievements made across the department, and I am looking forward to a successful next quarter.
Professor Chris Davey Head of Department of Psychiatry
