Department Spotlight: Associate Professor Donovan Moncur 

Donovan is the RANZCP Victorian Director of the Advanced Training for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Program Lead for the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Program (CAPC).

Donovan is based at the Department of Psychiatry’s Mindful Centre in Travancore and took up this dual role in 2024.

The CAPC is a two-year formal education program for psychiatry trainees and psychiatrists seeking to complete subspecialty training and certification as RANZCP Child and Adolescent psychiatrists, as well as paediatricians wanting to enhance their expertise in developmental and child and adolescent mental health.

Donovan trained as a psychiatrist sub-specialising in consultation-liaison and psychotherapy before completing further sub-specialty child and adolescent training. He has worked as a child and youth psychiatrist with infants, children, and young adults for over 15 years in inpatient psychiatric and general medical wards, in outpatient Child and Youth services, and with specialist autism assessment services.

Alongside these clinical roles, Donovan has worked in medical administration and teaching including as Director of Psychiatric Training at Alfred Health, Head of Psychiatry at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, and with the University of Melbourne’s Master of Psychiatry program.

Donovan is passionate about working with infants, children, young people and their families and carers who require complex and creative care solutions.
