Neuroscience in Ageing

Research overview
  • The Neuroscience in Ageing theme conducts research focusing on mental and cognitive health in middle and older adults, to advance knowledge, service delivery and healthcare and helps to reduce stigma and discrimination association with mental health problems and cognitive impairment in people as they age.
  • We have overlapping areas of interest:
    • Clinical trials and guidelines
    • Neuroimaging
    • Dementia (including young-onset dementia)
    • Cognition
    • Biomarkers
    • Psychosocial aspects of ageing
    • Psychiatric aspects/mental health of ageing
    • Dementia risk reduction
  • We have broad multidisciplinary relationships ranging from allied health, psychology and neuroimaging to biomarkers, music therapy and cognitive neuroscience
  • We work with community, health services and residential care
  • We have built strong relationships with researchers within the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty and MMS
  • Within the University of Melbourne, we work with the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences, FEIT, Faculty of Fine Arts and Music, Department of General Practice and Primary Care
  • Nationally we work closely with research teams from the NARI, ANU, University of New South Wales etc
  • Internationally we have collaborations with the University of Auckland and more
