Geetika Gupta

I am a final year medical student at the University of Melbourne, undertaking my MDRS project with the Department of Surgery at Western Health.  My research focuses on investigating the impact of liver steatosis on long-term survival outcomes and short-term postoperative outcomes in non-metastatic colon cancer patients. I am fortunate to be co-supervised by Professor Justin Yeung and Dr Lincoln Lim, both of whom have been incredibly supportive throughout my research journey.

I first worked with the team during my MD3 Discovery project, where I conducted a literature review. This experience introduced me to the collaborative and welcoming research environment at Western Health. The team, including Jo Yeung and Susan Teo, has been instrumental in providing guidance and support, which has made my research experience both enriching and enjoyable. The learning and networking opportunities have been invaluable.

In 2024, I had the privilege of presenting my research at Kendall Francis Surgical Forum, where I recevied valuable feedback from experts in the field. This experience solidified my interest in translational surgical research and underscored the critical role of collaborative mentorship in advancing patient outcomes. Moving forward, I look foward to working on my project this year and contribute to evidence-based surgical practices.
