Olivia Otto
I am a fourth year medical student at the University of Melbourne, currently undertsaking my MD research scholar project with the Department of Surgery at Western Health. My research focuses on the relationship between CT-measured body composition and surgical outcomes in patients with resectable pancreatic cancer.
Working under the mentorship of Professor Justin Yeung has been an invaluable experience. He has provided me with a lot of independence with the project whilst also always being available for support and guidance when needed. Additionally, the collaborative environment at Western Health has further enriched my learning, with a team that is always willing to provide insight and support.
This research experience has solidified my interest in surgery and medical research, and I look forward to contributing further to this field. I highly recommend the Department of Surgery at Western Health to future medical students interested in surgical research, as it provides an outstanding opportunity to develop critical research skills in a supportive and stimulating environment.
