MBCIU at ISMRM Diffusion Workshop
The ISMRM workshop on "40 Years of Diffusion: Past, Present & Future Perspectives" is underway from the 16th to the 20th of February at the Kyoto University in Kyoto, Japan. Over five days this workshop brings together experts in the field of diffusion MRI to showcase both the history and the cutting edge of diffusion MRI.
MBCIU’s A/Prof. Bradford Moffat will deliver a power pitch on his "Serial Acquisition of radiofrequency pulse MOdes" (SAMO) acquisition method during Session 4 on the 17th at 17:45.
SAMO allows diffusion MRI of the brain to reach its full potential at 7T by addressing a key challenge: destructive interference manifesting as signal dropout due to B1+ inhomogeneities. This is achieved by using a multi-transmit RF coil in both circularly polarised and elliptically polarised modes in order to acquire images with different patterns of signal dropout that do not overlap. SAMO combines the signal from both modes in order to restore signal in the temporal lobes and cerebellum while preserving signal through the rest of the brain.
