Research Overview

Professor Ada Cheung

Lead: Professor Ada Cheung

The Trans Health Research Group, led by Professor Ada Cheung and based at Austin Health, is dedicated to improving health and wellbeing for trans and gender diverse communities. Our diverse team includes trans men, trans women, non-binary people, and cisgender allies who are health professionals, clinicians and scientists that co-design projects with community input at every stage.

Our research focuses on three priorities: healthcare delivery, gender-affirming hormone therapy, and mental health. We are avid science communicators and have translated research into guidelines on gender affirming hormone therapy, applications for access to gender affirming surgery, new gender clinics, a statewide training program in trans health, better crisis support services and sporting policy for the inclusion of trans people.
