Kamm Research Group

Research Overview

The Kamm Research Group, led by Professor Michael Kamm at St Vincent’s Hospital, studies gastrointestinal disorders with a focus on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and functional gut conditions. Our research explores how gut microbes, diet, genetics, and environment contribute to diseases like Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis. Key projects include The ENIGMA II Study on diet and microbiota in Crohn’s disease, The FOCUS and MIRO trials on faecal microbiota transplantation as a treatment, and The STRIDENT program targeting bowel strictures in Crohn’s. We are also developing personalised dietary therapies through The DELECTABLE Study and investigating how maternal diet and infant feeding affect gut health in families with IBD with The BABYCINO Study. Our goal is to improve diagnosis, treatment, and quality of life of people with IBD through innovative, targeted approaches.
