SHINE project team research published in the New England Journal of Medicine

Congratulations to Dr Kate Hodgson and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Neonatal team whose research was published in the New England Journal of Medicine on 28 April 2022.

Dr Kate Hodgson recently completed her PhD and is the first author in the publication Nasal High-Flow Therapy during Neonatal Endotracheal Intubation along with her PhD supervisory team, which includes Associate Professor Brett Manley, Associate Professor Louise Owen and Professor Peter Davis.

Nasal high flow therapy is increasingly used for neonatal non-invasive respiratory support. The SHINE (Stabilisation with nasal High-flow for Intubation of NEonates) trial is a multi-centre, randomised controlled trial of nasal high flow during neonatal intubation. The primary outcome is successful intubation on the first attempt without physiological instability.
