Department of General Practice VicREN research network member and Honorary Senior Fellow, Dr Lester Mascarenhas, has launched Utopia, a health service for refugees and asylum seekers.

Utopia is a non-government organisation providing no-cost health services to refugees and asylum seekers, regardless of their Medicare status.

Located in Hoppers Crossing, a western suburb of Melbourne, Utopia provides refugees and asylum seekers with services tailored to their needs. No formal referral is required. All refugees and asylum seekers are welcome.

VicREN is the primary care practice-based research and education network that has been part of the University of Melbourne’s Department of General Practice since 2007. Research and education interested primary care providers and practice managers are welcome to join VicREN.
