Dr Lachlan Angus, endocrinologist and PhD student in the Trans Health Research Group in the Department of Medicine, has won the prestigious Bryan Hudson Clinical Endocrinology Award for 2023 at the Endocrine Society of Australia (ESA) Annual Scientific Meeting.

Dr Lachlan Angus

(L-R): Dr Lachlan Angus, Associate Professor Ada Cheung and Dr Brendan Nolan.

Angus presented findings from his PhD titled The effect of cyproterone and spironolactone on breast development in transgender women: a randomised controlled trial. With a dearth of robust evidence in the field, Dr Angus was congratulated for his significant contribution to the field, by conducting a novel randomised controlled trial to evaluate optimal methods of delivering gender affirming hormone therapy.

Highlighting the quality of endocrine research being led by Associate Professor Ada Cheung from the Department of Medicine, this is the second consecutive year that a member of the Trans Health Research Group has won the premier prize for the most outstanding clinical research presentation at the national ESA Annual Scientific Meeting. In 2022, the award was won by Dr Brendan Nolan who presented his world-first randomised controlled trial Early Access to Testosterone Therapy in Transgender and Gender-Diverse Adults Seeking Masculinization, which was recently published in JAMA Network Open.
