The Department of Medical Education leads the delivery of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) and advances medical education through scholarship, research and professional development. Our medical curriculum ensures a consistent, high-quality clinical experience across diverse sites, while flexible pathways support students in pursuing individual interests.
We also offer postgraduate and professional development programs in clinical teaching, research, and leadership — designed to fit around busy professional lives. Our research and scholarship continually inform our teaching, helping shape graduates who go on to learn, lead, and improve healthcare throughout their careers.

Doctor of Medicine (MD)
The Melbourne MD is the flagship program of the Melbourne Medical School — academically rigorous, clinically immersive, and research-informed. Delivered by expert staff and supported by strong clinical partnerships across metropolitan and rural settings, the MD provides students with diverse, high-quality learning experiences guided by leaders across Melbourne Medical School clinical departments.
Postgraduate & Short Courses for Health Professionals
We offer research-informed postgraduate and professional development programs designed for busy clinicians from all disciplines. Delivered by leaders in health professional education and research, our courses are grounded in real-world clinical practice and span three key areas: Clinical Education, Clinical Research and Clinical Leadership.
Research & Scholarship
Our health professions education (HPE) researchers and educators are leaders in their fields, supporting a vibrant program of HPE research and scholarship activities for staff, MD, Masters, and PhD students.
Wurru Wurru Health Unit
The Wurru Wurru Health Unit leads culturally informed, community-led teaching within the Department of Medical Education, working to improve health outcomes for First Nations peoples. Guided by principles of self-determination and grounded in First Nations understandings of health, the team collaborates with Elders and communities across Naarm (Melbourne) and Victoria to design and deliver curriculum across the Faculty .
