Senator David Van visits DRH

In early March, Senator David Van, Senator for Victoria visited the Department of Rural Health at Shepparton.

Senator Van met with Professor Julian Wright, Head of the Department of Rural Health, Professor Lisa Bourke, Director, University Department of Rural Health and Ms Andreia Marques, Department Manager – Rural Health.

He toured the campus and current facilities and was briefed on the new student accommodation project that has just commenced construction. He was also briefed about the progress of the Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) Program. The Senator visited the Dookie Campus while in the region and maintains a keen interest in matters of health, the environment and horticulture.

During the visit, he remarked that Rural and remote communities are the back bone of our nation and deserve safe, high quality primary healthcare services delivered by well-trained medical professionals.

“The students from University of Melbourne's School of Medicine (Rural Pathway) are the future of our rural healthcare system. The new facilities will ensure that they receive quality education in an end-to-end rural medical training program,” he said.
