Law and Ethics in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Law and Ethics in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Overview
This topic aims to introduce students to legal and ethical concepts and issues relevant to obstetrics and gynaecology. Each week will focus on a different topic to highlight the way that medicine, law, and ethics interrelate. Enrolled students will gain an understanding of health law concepts and ethical theory as they apply to case studies taken from O&G. Students will be required reflect on their medical knowledge, skills, and clinical experiences from and legal and ethical perspective and critically analyse the different issues raised in the case studies. Whilst focussing on O&G case studies, the legal and ethical concepts readily translate to other areas of medicine. This topic would suit students who are interested in health law, ethics, or obstetrics and gynaecology.
Dates and Times
All MD Discovery 3 topics will be held during a 4-week block to be determined based on topic selection and clinical school availability.
Teaching and Learning
Rural students in Ballarat, Wangaratta, and Shepparton will be able to participate in most activities from their rural location with most teaching occuring online. Extended rural cohort students will need to relocate for the entire topic. All students will need to travel for the workshop and for a limited number of face-to-face site visits.
Please note that Teaching and Learning activities will include synchronous and asynchronous activities, including on campus (or other locations). Timetables are subject to change and Topic leads will endeavour to notify you of these as soon as possible.
